Specifically from this angle:
The rear is better, albeit I'm not crazy about the split silver panel thing they've got going on there.
And the interior is very Lamborghini-esque. I quite like it.

I agree. The angular features don't quite match the roundness of the rest of the car.

I am not sure if the roof is new, but maybe it is the split blades, and the lengthened fastback engine lid... for some reason the roof looks like the peak is too far forward.
The front and rear fascias are not objectively bad, but just kind of 'there', not cool like the previous cars, especially ones like the first-gen R8 GT.
R8 just lost it's 'soul'. and a car like this, as Billy Joel put it... "its all about soul."
I think I might like Huracan better on this generation, rather than how I really prefer the first-gen R8 over the Gallardo.
Without the R8 having soul, if I had that money for a new car, I would rather have a Porsche 991 Carrera 4 GTS, or possibly the Huracan in a nice subtle, classy, non-flamboyant color, as mentioned.

It looks stretched in the middle, which is the fattest part of the car. The proportions are way off. And they changed the soft, sexy curves of the original, which made it pretty, and gave it sharp creases and hard edges instead.
I don't like it. It's not as pure or clean. It doesn't say "sexy $125k sports car" anymore. It says "mid-engine 3G Audi TT" now. Meh.

I'm a fan of the looks actually, although I've always loved the R8. I've never been hugely interested in Lambos and Ferraris (although they are obviously excellent) but the R8 always clicked with me. It'd be one of the very few exotic cars I'd own if I became a rich guy.

They effed it up. Gen 1 is a far more beautiful, cohesive design. Frank Lamberty and Walter de Silva nailed it. This design is a sad attempt to make the R8 fit within Audi's changing, more angular design direction.

Get out. It's perfect and no one can convince me otherwise! Better than the Gen 1 I think.

looks like an refresh TBH.
Also I feel like a bit of this design language will find its way onto the Bugatti veyron

Agreed, I want one very much. I drove a gen 1 and it was excellent, would even make a good daily driver if you could stomach the maintenance.

The maintenance on a R8 is ..not at all in any way that bad to afford.

Your talking about soul..then saying you'd rather have the most soulless car Lamborghini has ever made.... O.o

It's still obviously going to be more than the average car, but yeah from what I've heard it's better than the likes of Ferrari and Lambo.

Middle class could afford maintenance on it..just not the car in the first place, lol

I think the things that would really cost the big money would be brakes whenever the rotors wore out.

I seem to recall it being brakes and tires that added up to most of the maintenance. Seem to also recall they eat through tires fairly quick..also it's a Audi so odds are it probably gobbles up a fair amount of oil, haha

Yeah that sounds about right. 4WD plus plenty of power means it'll probably eat all 4 corners pretty quickly. The one I drove was on Gallardo wheels because it's what the track had spare and it had just worn out it's tyres.

To someone who prefers auto to manual, especially in high performance applications like this, Nope still perfect.

While saying that, bare in mind that even the best drivers in the world prefer manual. Case and point - Lewis Hamilton

It may be the least flamboyant in recent history, but I like lamborghinis that aren't ridiculously cubist.
I like the Miura, the 400GT, Jarama, Urraco, and their recently shown Asterion concept.
Countach was at least original.
Diablo wasn't horrible, but it was too comical. Murcielago, Aventador, Gallardo, Reventon, and most of the cubist concepts are interesting to look at... but I grow weary of them quickly. They are too loud and too ostentatious
Huracan is smooth enough, that even though it is an evolution of the cubist design cars, it has some gracefulness to the lines.
And it isn't quite as odd with the proportions and fascias as this new R8.
I wouldn't mind the green if it were a slight shade darker and deeper, and a bit further from yellow, like the Wheeler Dealers Urraco.

It looks like the last one mixed with a Veyron and a few angles. As far as I see it, it's the same car that came out in 2008.

I think this is one of those cars that looks better in the metal, so I'll reserve judgment. But the blades - enough with the fucking blades already.
